BB CHARITY Society, and KK Super Mart ushered the arrival of Chinese New Year
with a BB Charity Carnival which feted 500 participants, including senior
citizens, the homeless, drug addicts, the handicapped, mentally-challenged,
single mothers and orphans. |
BB Charity Society chairman Datuk Dr Douglas KK Chai said the society performed
acts of benevolence for the and needy, irrespective of creed or race.
Representing the MP for Bukit Bintang Fong Kui Lun, Teratai assemblyman Jenice
Lee called for greater love towards Mother Earth by reducing or boycotting the
use of plastic bags and be eco-conscious to further green Malaysia. BN Bukit
Bintang chairman Datuk Dr Lee Chong Meng in his closing speech urged for greater
focus on eradication of street crimes and drug abuse especially in Bukit Bintang
which is a tourist destination.
The carnival program boasted cultural performances, mime drama by Rumah Victory
depicting the evils of drug abuse and the haunts of along (illegal money
lenders), and testimonies from rehabilitated addicts.
For the first time, an exhibition on the evils of drug abuse set up by Rumah
Victory and Agensi Antidadah Kebangsaan from the Home Affairs Ministry was
displayed at Bukit Bintang.
The event ended with VIPs distributing 500 goodies bags to the poor and ang pow
to senior citizens.
Among those who attended the event were special officer to Deputy Federal
Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Chan Kim Leong, BB Charity Society
vice-chairman Isaiah Tan Seong Hwa, Clara International Beauty Group chief
executive officer Datuk Woo Ser Chai, SMI Association of Malaysia Biotechnology
Bureau chairman Michael Kang and founder of Rumah Victory Philip Mok.
