KUALA LUMPUR: Parents who place their children in welfare homes should make
it a point to visit them regularly.
They should not rely solely on the homes to care for their children, said Datin
Seri Rosmah Mansor yesterday.
"Don't just leave it to welfare homes. Come and see them regularly. They also
need love and care from parents," she said after launching a new wing of the Ti-Ratana
Children's Home in Salak South Baru in conjunction with Chinese New Year.
The prime minister's wife also gave a donation of RM20,000 to Venerable Rev K.
Sri Dhammaratana, who is the Buddhist chief high priest of Malaysia and founder
and adviser of Ti-Ratana Welfare Society. |
The donation was made on behalf of the Association of Wives of Ministers and
Deputy Ministers (Bakti).
More than 100 of the 260 children living at the home's old wing would move
into the new building.
At another Chinese New Year function organized by Bakti and YTL Corporation
Bhd, Rosmah handed out ang pow to more than 400 orphans, the disabled and
senior citizens from 13 homes and associations.
The welfare homes included Chempaka Buddhist Lodge, Rumah Victory Youth
Centre, Shelter Home, Ci Hang Cempaka Welfare Association, Ampang Old Folks'
Home, Sungei Way Old Folks' Home and Beautiful Gate Foundation for the
Disabled.
