Datuk Tan Chai Ho.Terlebih dahulu saya mengucapkan terima kasih kepada pihak penganjur yang telah sudi menjemput saya hadir di Majlis Jualan Amal Rumah Victory pada pagi ini.

Ladies and gentlemen,

I sincerely honoured to be here this afternoon, as house of victory's patron for its Chinese New Year Caring Charity Sale. It is my joy and pleasure to be here, as this afternoon marks the beginning of an interesting and meaningful event, not only for those involved in the community services provided by Rumah Victory, but for each and everyone of us within the local community.

In the last two months, the entire country has been in a real holiday mood, if not a festive mood. We had the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan which built up to the Hari Raya celebrations. Within a week came Christmas. And with much joy and pomp, we ushered in the year 2002 a week later. I am sure many people are still recovering for that long festive period. But frankly, I think everyone is looking to the coming Chinese
New Year celebrations to top it all off!

In the midst of all these merry making, sometimes, it is easy to forget that there are those within our society that may not have the pleasure or opportunity to celebrate in all fullness. There are many who require assistance and support, be it financial, emotional or even physical. Life is a struggle for many of them and the burdens that they carry can at times be overwhelming. I personally find it refreshing when events, such as this charity sale, are organized as it makes people conscious about those within the community who are in need and allows them to contribute back to society.

Rumah Victory has created an opportunity for us to be part of the effort to provide some assistance to some of these people. As I know, Rumah Victory has been in operation since 1988 and has grown from strength to strength.

This organisation and its operations now provides assistance to various groups, including drug addicts, HIV patients, the elderly as well as juvenile delinquents. Its efforts and contributions to our society is indeed an achievement, mentoring and caring for those under its care over the last 13 years.

Ladies and gentlemen

Most of us are here today in support for Rumah Victory's caring charity sale. I am sure that is quite a number who are just passing by and are stopping to see what all the commotion is all about. For those who are unaware, this charity sale is to raise funds for Rumah Victory's community centers, in particular, its old folks home, the marginal youth center and their drug rehabilitation centers.

I have been informed that for all the services that it provides, Rumah Victory requires close to RM 1 million to maintain operations. That, I must say, is not a small amount. For that matter, it is an added burden to them, considering the amount of sacrifice they have made to contribute to the betterment of our community.

As such, I would now like to urge the public to join me in supporting the efforts of Rumah Victory. The work and services that they provide to our community is truly admirable, and the least that we can do is to help, and stand by them in their time of need. Several organizations have come forward to assist them thus far. We are privileged to have the Royal Malaysian Vintage & Classic Car Club here with us today to add colour to the celebrations. The Selangor Council of Welfare & Social Development and the Beautiful Gate Disabled People Caring Center are also supporting this event and will be setting up booths to sell their handicrafts. A group of singers and artistes led by Mr. Wilson Tin will be providing entertainment through the carnival. A large number of booths will be set up also providing food and beverages during that time. All proceeds obtained through this charity sale will go directly to Rumah Victory. Of course, we cannot forget the management of Endah Parade for graciously sponsoring the use of their premise for this event. To all who have come forward and offered your assistance, a very big "Thank You" to you all.

Ladies and gentlemen

I have taken quite a bit of time already, and would not like to hold up proceedings any longer. So in closing, I would like to appeal once again to you, the members of the public, to share in the concerns of our community by contributing to the efforts of Rumah Victory. Your contributions would help in the improvement of lives, as well as the betterment of our community and society.
